Urban Forest Master Plan Consultation

Understanding and Awareness

Before we ask for your views on the Urban Forest Master Plan, we want to know how much people already understand about Tree Equity in Hartlepool and how easy the plan is to read.

Tree Equity means making sure everyone has fair access to trees and green spaces. Some parts of Hartlepool have lots of trees, while others have very few. This means some neighbourhoods miss out on things like shade, cleaner air, nature and places that help people feel healthy and happy.

One big aim of the Master Plan is to make this fairer for everyone across the town.

These questions will help us learn:
• what people already know about Tree Equity
• if the information in the plan is clear
• if the plan is easy for everyone to read and understand

Your answers will help us improve how we share information, how we make decisions about where trees are most needed, and how we write future documents so they are simpler and clearer for everyone.

1.

Before taking part in this consultation, how aware were you that Hartlepool has one of the lowest tree canopy levels in the UK?

Data from 2024 shows that Hartlepool's average canopy cover is 9.4%, with some areas being as low as 3.4%. Forest Research recommends at least 15% for coastal towns and cities.
