Are Council services accessible to people with long-term conditions? - Organisations Survey

The Council's Scrutiny Committee are carrying out an investigation to find out how accessible Council services are for people with long-term conditions and their carers. As part of this investigation we are asking organisations that support people with long-term conditions and carers to tell us about:

  • How easy it is for you to find out about and use Council services - either on behalf of your clients or when assisting your clients to do so themselves
  • Any feedback or anecdotal evidence you have received from your staff or clients about their experiences when using Council services

 We want to understand what's working well and also what we could do better.  

What kind of services are we asking about

When answering the following questions please bear in mind that we want to hear about your experience supporting clients using any or all Council services not just those relating to their long-term condition (or the condition of someone they care for). You can tell us about services that your clients use:

  • In person (e.g. in a Council building or at home)
  • Online
  • Over the telephone 
  • Through the post (including when we send them letters or information, for example their council tax bill, their polling card to vote or the Hartbeat magazine)

Some examples of services that your clients may use which do not relate to a long-term condition might include:

  • Booking a bulky waste collection
  • Using a library service
  • Making an enquiry or a complaint about a service
  • Making or commenting on a planning application
  • Attending a public meeting

Some examples of Council services which might directly relate to your clients' conditions could include:

  • Care providers (where the Council pays for some or all of your clients' care)
  • Centre for Independent Living (Hartlepool CIL) day services
  • School transport
  • Blue badge parking scheme

These examples are intended to be illustrative rather than exhaustive.

What services are we not asking about

Please do not tell us about services which are not provided or commissioned by the Council as we have no control over these. Some examples might include:

  • GP surgeries
  • Hospital services
  • Private care providers (where clients fund all their care themselves)
  • Public transport (privately operated such as bus or train services)
  • Middleton Grange Shopping Centre
