Apprentices & Work Experience
At Hartlepool Borough Council, we recognise that Apprenticeships provide a great way to grow our own talent and develop a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce. We offer apprenticeships across a range of occupational areas, and we welcome applications from individuals of all ages, who would like to gain a qualification, develop practical work related skills and experience whilst also earning a salary.
We also provide opportunities to undertake a work experience placements - giving individuals insight into the working world. It can help inform and shape career decisions, and offers, first hand, a way to explore the Council as a positive workplace.

Hartlepool Borough Council offer a range of apprenticeship opportunities across all Council departments. Our apprentices are paid in line with the national apprenticeship rates of pay, which can be found here.
Below are some examples of the types of apprenticeships the Council regularly recruits to:

- Civil Engineering, Level 3
- Customer Service, Level 3
- Electrical, Level 3
- Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician, Level 3
- Horticulture, Level 2

- Painting and Decorating, Level 2

Undertaking a work experience placement with Hartlepool Borough Council can give you valuable insight into the diverse work and varied job roles we undertake.
We aim to offer placements to:
- Students completing a course of study that requires work experience
- Individuals looking to develop a greater understanding of a specific job role to help inform their future career path
- School students hoping to gain their first glimpse into the world of work.
