Aerial view of Middleton Grange Shopping CentreThe project involves the first phase of the regeneration and re-imagination of the Middleton Grange shopping centre, to create a clearly defined mixed-use heart for the town centre.

This transformational project is designed to change the image of the shopping centre from a large-scale, inward-looking shopping mall to a well-connected mixed-use area which contributes to the character of Hartlepool as a waterfront market town. This will be achieved by attracting a new mix of uses, addressing vacant retail space and improving the character of the town centre.

I just need more detailed information on the apartments that will be built within the town centre please.

Akbar shabani asked 24 days ago

    Thank you for your question.

The larger regeneration of the Town Centre is not within the boundary of Hartlepool Borough Council’s town deal project which is just focusing on restoring the Binns Building and creating public realm and new entrance ways, with the detailed plans still to be developed.  This larger development is being delivered by The Hartlepool Development Corporation and as yet, there is no start date for their project.  If you would like more information regarding the Hartlepool Development Corporation and its projects please got to https://teesvalley-ca.gov.uk/about/hartlepool-development-corporation/ or contact info@teesvalley-ca.gov.uk.

There are a number of projects being delivered in the town centre and we would only be able to provide details of any that were being delivered by Hartlepool Borough Council, more information can be found for these projects on our project pages on this site or feel free to ask a follow up question, thank you.

Any updates when the work will start? Which part of the shopping centre will need to close or be affected by the works? Will the units behind B&M Bargain and close to the Bins Building need to close when the work commence on the Shopping Centre project. Kind Regards Jav

    Jav asked 2 months ago

Thanks for the question Jav. As yet, there is no start on site date for the project as this has been awaiting the agreement for Hartlepool Development Corporation to buy the long leasehold for the shopping centre. There is still agreement to be reached on the next stages and full designs and when these are finalised updates will be posted here

Hi, is there any plans in the future to stop the leaking glass roof etc ,as it becomes an obstacle course when all buckets etc are in place during the weather conditions. Surly if the plans are to encourage more usage of the centre then leaking roofs surely should be next thing planned so that public can shop without hinderance of buckets, also a reduction in rents /rates for shops so they can afford to stay and come here if boyes stores

Just a suggestion really..... in the interim period whilst Wilko's is stood empty, why not involve the The Northern School of Art to do some window displays, eg themes like Halloween, Xmas, Easter, and other themes etc :-)

    Maxine.Bee asked 6 months ago

Thank you for your really positive suggestion and we will discuss with partners and colleagues to see how we can incorporate more creative works, art, design etc into all of our town centre projects
