Introduction
Historic England has awarded Hartlepool Borough Council a Regional Capacity Building Grant to support the preparation of conservation area management plans (CAMP) for the Headland and Seaton Carew Conservation Areas.
Conservation Areas are ‘areas of special historic or architectural interest, which are desirable to preserve and enhance’ which are statutory designations under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990.
The area covered by the Conservation Area can be viewed in the 'Documents & Maps' Section on this page.
Purcell Architecture Ltd, an external specialist consultant, has been appointed to undertake the review on behalf of the Council. Purcell will be:
Reviewing the condition of the Conservation Area
Reviewing the boundaries
Identifying opportunities for enhancement and will work with partners to help unlock the potential of key sites
Updating the Conservation Area Appraisal
Prepare a new Management Plan to include feasibility studies for key sites, and design guides to address the loss of traditional detailing and inform new development
Supporting the Council with public consultation
Local knowledge will be vital for the preparation of the CAMP. We are particularly interested in understanding what you think is special about the area and what opportunities you think there are for its improvement. This questionnaire will run alongside a face-to-face, drop-in event to be held locally, details of which will be announced soon.
The responses you provide will influence the preparation of the CAMP and you will be invited to provide further comment on the draft document when it is published and the period of statutory consultation commences in the New Year.
